Our Purpose
Faculty at Rutgers University are working with high school teachers to encourage their students to participate in genuine molecular biology research in the classroom.

Announcements
Last updated 6/5/09 8:15 AM

6/5/09 Students: Please finish the analysis of your PC clones!! We will not submit your unknown sequences for publication on NCBI until you have correctly completed the analysis of the PC clones and handed in your signed parental release form.

6/5/09 We thank all students, teachers, parents, administrators, and GE employees who attended the annual Poster Forum at GE Healthcare on 6/2/09!! It was really exciting to see all the great research being performed at your high schools. It was a great success!

6/5/09 Several schools created physical models of proteins that are homlogous to the Artemia protein coded by the genes they identified. See the SMART Protein Structure Modeling link for more information and pictures on the structures that were made for the 2008-2009 Poster Forum. We thank Tim Herman, Margaret Franzen, and Mark Hoelzer from the Milwaukee School of Engineering Center for Biomolecular Modeling for creating the models with the scripts generated by the students.

3/31/09 Four more "practice clones" have been added to the practice clone pool. The PST1.09 and PST2.09 are clones which code for proteins that can be used to model the structure of the protein. The PSG1.09 and PSG2.09 clones have gaps in the sequences and can be used as practice to determine how to subclone the plasmids to sequence the DNA.

3/16/09 Sequences for each school will be loaded onto DSAP in the next few days. To begin to work on a sequence from a clone prepped by your school, Select the "+ Add New Clone" button under the My Clones tab to select from the list of clones assigned to your school.

3/6/09 WGBH has made a video of the WSSP HiGene project! To see the video connect here!

2/6/09 The NEW version of the DSAP program has been posted! Please log into this version even if you have registered on the old version. You will need to be approved by the WSSP staff before you can begin the analysis of the clones. All students must complete the analysis of Practice Clones (PC) before they begin the analysis of their own clones.

1/23/09 A new Waksman Challenge has been posted.
