Our Purpose
Faculty at Rutgers University are working with high school teachers to encourage their students to participate in genuine molecular biology research in the classroom.

Announcements
Last updated 11/5/09

11/5/09 We have added new fields to the BLAST tables in DSAP! The "Query Start" is the first base pair of your sequence that matches to the sequence from the database. This may be the first base of your sequence or it may be a position in the middle of the sequence. The "Query Stop" is the last base pair of your sequence that matches to the sequence from the database. This may be the last base of your sequence or it may be a position in the middle of the sequence.

10/26/09 We have started to publish the Wolffia cDNA sequences that were worked on over the summer! We have created a list of the published sequences for each school. We are waiting for many students to send in their Parental Release forms and complete the Post-Survey so that we can publish their clones. Please complete these soon.

10/26/09 Thank you to all the students, teachers, and GE partners that attended the Second Academic Follow Up Meeting on Oct 23. It was a great to see everyone and hear about all the research, including both the successes and problems. If you have not done so, please send us your updated Combined Clone Report Sheet by e-mail.

10/19/09 The Second Academic Follow Up Meeting will be Friday Oct 23, from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM at the Waksman Institute, Rutgers University. Please send us your updated Combined Clone Report Sheet by e-mail by Thursday, Oct 22. Each school should bring a Power Point file of their Clone Summary Presentation that they will present to students and teachers from the other schools. We will also need a Power Point file containing a mock-up of all the gels run at your school. A template for the mock-up is here.

9/7/09 Summer Institute Students: Please finish the analysis of your clones!! We will not submit your unknown sequences for publication on NCBI until you have correctly completed the analysis of the PC clones and handed in your signed parental release form.

6/5/09 We thank all students, teachers, parents, administrators, and GE employees who attended the annual Poster Forum at GE Healthcare on 6/2/09!! It was really exciting to see all the great research being performed at your high schools. It was a great success!

6/5/09 Several schools created physical models of proteins that are homologous to the Artemia protein coded by the genes they identified. See the SMART Protein Structure Modeling link for more information and pictures on the structures that were made for the 2008-2009 Poster Forum. We thank Tim Herman, Margaret Franzen, and Mark Hoelzer from the Milwaukee School of Engineering Center for Biomolecular Modeling for creating the models with the scripts generated by the students.

3/6/09 WGBH has made a video of the WSSP HiGene project! To see the video connect here!
